On Tuesday, December 10th, Green Bank Observatory staff will be a part of a press conference for Generation West Virginia (Generation WV) who will launch recruiting for the fourth year of their Impact Fellowship program. The event will be at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center in Charleston, West Virginia.

Generation WV is a statewide organization dedicated to attracting and retaining young talent in the Mountain State. The Green Bank Observatory is participating as a host employer.

“Green Bank Observatory is invested in keeping local talent in the state, inviting West Virginians to return home and seeking new talent to become future residents. Generation Impact Fellowships are designed to do just that and we couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this effort! For over sixty years the Observatory has been on the cutting edge of astronomical exploration. A generational shift in our workforce will make over 25 excellent jobs available in the next 5 years. Bringing new talent to the National Radio Quiet Zone to make our future discoveries possible is critical to the continued success of our operations,” shares Tracy Samples, who manages Human Resources for the Observatory.

Generation WV’s Impact Fellowship Program, recognized as a World Changing Idea Finalist in 2018 by FastCompany, works to strengthen West Virginia’s talent pipeline by offering a yearlong, paid fellowship to connect young people from across the state and the country with innovative jobs that allow them to stay or choose West Virginia. 2020’s innovative fellowship positions offer a minimum salary of $31,000 including benefits. Since launching in January of 2017, the program has received nearly 800 applications.
