Full moon party and Telescope workshop
We’re kicking off our annual Open House with an evening under the moon!
Join us at the GBO Science Center on Saturday, September 6 – the day before Open House – for a Full Moon Party + Telescope Workshops! All events are free, but advance registration is required for some. Camping is available for a fee; advance registration required.
4:00 PM – 40-ft Radio Telescope Workshop (ages 12 and up; capacity limited, advance registration required by Wednesday, September 3rd!)
6:00 PM – Optical Telescope Workshop (advance registration appreciated but not required.)
Moonrise (the Moon rises at 7:17, sunset at 7:41)
8:30 PM-10:00 PM – once it gets dark, we’ll be viewing the night sky. All are welcome, no telescope required! If the sky is cloudy, we’ll do an indoor night sky tour.
GBO staff will have a few telescopes on-hand and we invite you to bring your own if you have one. Amateur astronomers will be available to help you learn how to use it between 6 and 7:30. The moon will be nearly full, so we won’t have a great view of the stars, but this will be a great chance to practice using a telescope.
Joining us for Open House the next day? Camping will be available onsite for those who wish to stay over – $5 per person for ages 5 and up. Advance Registration required by Wednesday, September 3rd. Not a camper? Check out our local Visitors Bureau for lodging in the area.
