February 2024 (virtual)

February 6-8, 2024 (virtual)

Applications were open from December 1 – January 12, 2024. We informed all applicants of their acceptance by January 19, 2024. The application can be found here.

The GBT Training Workshop will include three days of intensive instruction on how to observe with the Green Bank Telescope. This will include very little background in radio astronomy and is targeted toward graduate students and professional astronomers who will be observing with the GBT in the near future.

Registration & Selection Criteria

By filling out this registration form, you are applying to participate in the February 2024 Remote GBT Training Workshop. In order to give every participant adequate experience controlling the GBT as part of their training, we have a limited number of spaces available. Priority application deadline is Friday, January 12th, and we hope to send you confirmation of your attendance in the workshop by January 19, 2024. If we have more applicants than spaces available, we will prioritize attendance by (1) applicants with GBT projects in the 24A semester beginning in February 2024, (2) applicants with GBT proposals under review, (3) applicants looking to gain understanding of the GBT before submitting a proposal in a future call, (4) all other applicants.

Schedule

The workshop will begin on the morning of Wednesday, February 8 and end on the afternoon of Friday, February 10. An example schedule from a previous workshop can be seen at this link.

This February workshop is meant to provide attendees with the tools to observe with the Green Bank Telescope. We will not include an in depth background on single dish radio astronomy. The next Single Dish Observing School beyond this workshop will be held in Green Bank in Fall 2024.

Travel
