First2 Network

Green Bank Observatory is proud to be a founding member of the First2 Network, a state-wide alliance dedicated to improving the success of first generation college students who major in STEM fields.

Even though West Virginia high school students indicate a healthy interest in science, technology, engineering and math careers, many drop out of these majors, particularly during the first 2 years. Our aim, working with diverse partners in the state, including higher education, K-12 education, youth development leaders, policy makers, industry, and labs like ours, is to double the graduation rate of STEM majors over the next five years. Our co-pilots in this effort are the students themselves. Who better to change the systems than those affected by it?
