Lunar Landing Open House

at the Green Bank Observatory Science Center

1:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.

1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. -- Snow cones available all afternoon!

3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. -- Educational activities!

Walk like an astronaut in our own version of a Moon Bounce; Learn about how craters are formed on the moon - first hand! Investigate minerals and rocks the way the Lunar astronauts did; Complete a Rock Sample Retrieval Obstacle Course; Learn about building your own Lunar Rover; Design Your Own Mission Patch; and MORE!

At 4:00 p.m. there will be a talk in the auditorium on how the GBT studies the moon with RADAR

5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. -- Cafe dinner special - 2 slices pizza & drink for $5

7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. -- Presentation by Chris Impey, Our Future in Space: From the Moon to Exoplanets

Dr. Impey is a University Distinguished Professor of Astronomy and Associate Dean of the College of Science at the University of Arizona, a past Vice President of the American Astronomical Society and an NSF Distinguished Teaching Scholar. His research interests are observational cosmology, galaxies, and quasars.

8:30 p.m. -- Mural unveiling. Come see what our resident artist has been up to in the Exhibit Hall. It is out of this world!

8:45 p.m. -- Book signing by Dr. Impey

8:45 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. -- Reception in the Science Center Atrium
