Pocahontas County Science and Engineering Fair 2020-2021

For the 2020-2021 year only, projects will move directly from the school to the state level competition. Fair participation is optional for all schools. The Pocahontas County Science and Engineering Fair will not be held this year.

If your school decides to participate:

  • Select a school-level fair contact. That coordinator will be the primary liaison between WVDE and the school.
  • The WVDE will provide a grant of $100 to support coordination of the school fair.
  • Determine your competition format (virtual, hybrid, in-person, etc.).
  • Hold your fair!
  • Determine one “best of fair” project per grade band (3-5, 6-8, 9-12).
  • Submit a 3- to 5-minute video presentation (either voiceover Powerpoint or video) for each “best of fair” project between March 1 and March 12, 2021.

Extra rules for 2020-2021:

  • Students enrolled in full-time virtual instruction are eligible to submit projects for competition at the school level.
  • Homeschooled students may contact you to participate. You may handle this on a case-by-case basis.
  • All projects will be completed individually this year (no teams or group projects).

GBO is willing to be as involved or not involved in your individual science fairs as you’d like. We can offer GBO scientists, engineers, and educators to mentor your students through their projects and to judge your students’ projects. We can recruit judges and non-observatory mentors, as well as put together IRBs and SRCs. Just reach out to us with what you need, and we’ll make it happen.
