SUMMARY:Star Party and book talk
DESCRIPTION:\nJoin us for a Book Talk and Summer Star Party with Dr. Kelsey Johnson, astrophysicist and author most recently of Into the Unknown: The Quest to Understand the Mysteries of the Cosmos. Dr. Johnson is a professor at the University of Virginia and past-president of the American Astronomical Society; her research focuses primarily on galaxy evolution, with a focus on how the most ancient star clusters in the Universe were formed. In addition to her work as a professional research scientist, Dr. Johnson has devoted much of her career to encouraging young people to be curious and explore the Big Questions about our Universe. She has contributed articles for a variety of popular science publications, given numerous public talks, including a TED Talk, and her children’s book, Constellations for Kids, is still a favorite among children’s astronomy books.\n\n\n\nWe are so lucky to have her come discuss some of those Big Questions with us here at the Green Bank Science Center! We’ll have Dr. Johnson’s books available in the gift shop.\n\n\n\nBring your questions and join us! \n\n\n\nSaturday, July 19th, 7:30 PM.\n\n\n\nScience Center Auditorium\n\n\n\nIf weather permits, a Star Party will follow the talk, starting at about 9:30 PM. Observatory staff will bring out optical telescopes and be on-hand to help you identify constellations in the summer night sky. Stay tuned for more details as the date approaches. Weather updates will be posted prior to the event on our Facebook page at\n\n\n\n\n\n                function masterqrCurrentPAge(){new QRCode(document.getElementById("masterqrPost"),{text: "https://greenbankobservatory.org", width: 133, height: 133, colorDark: "#000000", colorLight:"#ffffff", PI: "#000000", PO: "#000000", AI: "#000000", AO: "#000000", PI_TL: "#000000", PO_TL: "#000000", logo: "", logoWidth: 55, logoHeight: 55, logoBackgroundTransparent: true, backgroundImage: "", dotScale: "0.6", timing: "#000000", timing_V: "#000000", backgroundImageAlpha: "0.3",});}masterqrCurrentPAge();
